In my fleeting moments, I am a volunteer Community Manager for Deadeye Games. This is a Dutch company that is in the early stages of producing Rulers of the Sea, a MMORPG set in 1750 which special attention paid to historical accuracy. The devs are amazing to talk to and give very detailed answers to any questions you might have about the design, monetization, or philosophy of the team.
You can sail the world, fight in a 1st Rate Ship of the Line or a Frigate, command an army company, Regiment, or Brigade. Run a shipbuilding company, a tailor, arms manufacturing conglomerate, become Prime Minister, Home Secretary, run a hospital, become a pirate, operate a brothel, a tavern, a hotel, or any number of things in 152 different nations. The experience system found in many games is done away with and replaced by the education system. If you take a short class on how to sail a frigate, then you are qualified to sail one and have the opportunity if the Admiralty selects you. A captain who has sailed Navy ships for many months has more "experience" than you by virtue of being at it longer. Different designs, types of wood, sails, guns, and crew will also play a part in your vessel's performance compared to others. It's incredibly detailed and meant for a niche population of gamers.
I recognize it may not be the best game for a community like =VX9=, but I thought I should give it some attention
